Recently, VYPE had the privilege to talk to and to find out more about Goddard High School senior athlete Lauryn Gordon.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
Gordon: I hope to continue to be a great teammate this year and work hard for my senior year. For basketball and soccer, I hope to create great memories to carry with me after I graduate. My number one goal is to set a great example for my younger teammates.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Gordon: The most fun I’ve had in the last year is playing with my team and being super close with my teammates outside of basketball.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Gordon: My favorite teacher is Kelly Hall, my Honors English teacher, because she is a wonderful human being who deserves all good things.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Gordon: My favorite athletic memory is when Goddard won the Lady Cat Classic my sophomore year.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Gordon: My teammate Marayah Coleman has left the biggest impact on me. I love her a lot, and we keep each other in the game at all times.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Gordon: My favorite part of being on this team is getting to build relationships with my girls. I’ve made a lot of great friends, and I’m excited to build a bond with the new players this year.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
Gordon: If I could pick a place to go on vacation, I would go to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, because I love mountains. I would take my Uncle Lincoln because I get my love for hiking from him.
VYPE: If we gave you $5000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?
Gordon: I would buy more crazy basketball socks and more dogs.
VYPE: What other sports, activities, or community service projects do you participate in, and how have these helped to prepare you for the future?
Gordon: I participate in soccer, KAY, National Honors Society, and Spanish Club. Through KAY I’ve done many amazing service projects, like GHS Daddy-Daughter dances. I think these other activities have helped me learn how to connect with people outside of sports. I enjoy meeting new people through these groups and love helping people and groups in my community.
