Recently, VYPE had the privilege to talk to and to find out more about Goddard High School senior athlete Tyson Wallace.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
Wallace: My personal goals for the year are to keep a good GPA, hopefully earn league and state honors in football, and win state in powerlifting and in track. Additionally, I would like to earn some college scholarships, and just in general enjoy my senior year.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Wallace: This past year I had the opportunity to go to Pensacola Beach in Florida. That was a great trip and a lot of fun. I was also able to go snow skiing in Colorado, and I attended a summer camp at Table Rock Lake with my youth group. All those trips were awesome and so much fun.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Wallace: A lot of teaches have impacted my life. If I had to narrow it down, I would have to say Mrs. Ryan’s science class in intermediate school was one of my favorite classes of all time. I was able to go to a science convention that she took me to after I had made a windmill. She is a super cool teacher and made it fun. Honestly though, each and every coach that I’ve had as a teacher has made a big impact on me through the way they have encouraged me and helped me to succeed.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Wallace: My favorite memory would have to be my first varsity game playing under the Friday Night lights. From the time I was young, playing in little league, I dreamed about playing under those lights. There is nothing like it. Even this year every Friday night is special. I’ll definitely miss that someday.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Wallace: Over the years of playing sports I’ve had great teammates who have impacted my life. I have had a lot of amazing teammates, especially the guys I’m playing with this year. One person who stands out to me, because he is always pushing me to play harder, is my football teammate Lane Nelson. Lane has always been supportive and is always challenging me to work hard and make plays. He also helps us to remember we are part of a team and a family.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Wallace: My favorite part of being on team is the players and coaches. We have a lot of fun, and our coaches care about each of us. This team cares about hard work day in and day out to succeed. I love how ours is more than just a team – it feels like a family. We spend time off the field hanging out together. We have become brothers.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
Wallace: I really enjoy going to Florida with my family. Sometimes we invite our family’s friends and we just have fun playing around and hanging on the beach, enjoying the sun and the waves.
VYPE: If we gave you $5000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
Wallace: If I had to spend it in 24 hours, I’d get a new computer to play video games online with my friends. I’d also load up on a bunch of food gift cards.
VYPE: What other sports, activities, or community service projects do you participate in, and how have these helped to prepare you for the future?
Wallace: I’ve had the opportunity to compete in track and powerlifting. These have helped me to keep competitive and keep working with teammates. I also get to be active in my church and youth group weekly, which helps me to be a better leader and a better man as I live out my faith. I’ve really enjoyed helping out with the Special Olympics bowling during the summer and the Goddard clean-up day in the spring. These things have helped me to serve others and learn how to work hard to achieve success.
