Q&A with Goddard’s Luke Griffith – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Ken Hansard

Recently, VYPE had the privilege to talk to and find out more about Goddard High School athlete Luke Griffith.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
Griffith: I want to qualify for state this year and get as close to the school record as possible.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Griffith: The most fun I have had in the last year was hanging out with my family and my teammates this past summer.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Griffith: My favorite teacher is Mr. Cline. He is so fun and his class is filled with tons of learning. I love when we go off topic and talk about random things. Mr. Cline is also just a very funny guy.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Griffith: My favorite athletic memory was achieving all-league last year in cross country.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Griffith: I don’t know if I can pick a single teammate that has left the biggest impression on me. My whole team is so supportive and encouraging! We are all such good friends, and I can’t pick a single one who has made the most impact. We are a team, and we stick together. We are always there for each other.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Griffith: My favorite thing about my team is the culture we have created at Goddard High School. We are a group of runners who love what we do and wouldn’t change anything about it.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
Griffith: I would take my family to Colorado, and we would spend a week in a cabin. Colorado is such a special place for me. I have a couple memories of growing up in Colorado, but I want to go back to hike for a while.

VYPE:  If we gave you $5000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
Griffith: I would invest the $5000 dollars in something that would make more money over time. Nothing in particular, but I don’t really have anything to use $5000 on right now.

VYPE:  What other sports, activities, or community service projects do you participate in, and how have these helped to prepare you for the future?
Griffith: I am involved in track, marching band / drumline, and Tri-M. I participate in many service projects with my youth group and volunteer at Meals-on-Wheels. These have all helped me learn how to balance my time. I have also learned that it is good to get involved. Service in any way is good for the people around you, but it also makes you feel good.
