Goddard’s Morgan Foos – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

By Ken Hansard

Goddard High athlete Morgan Foos is looking to help lead a Lions’ volleyball team that is in transition under new Head Coach Micki Soft-Heim.

Foos is excited about her role in helping to build a new culture within the program.  “I’m really looking forward to our home games. The support and atmosphere created by the student section really helps us play our best.”

That kind of energy usually comes with success on the court, and Foos acknowledges that creating that atmosphere will not be an easy task.  “I think the hardest part about volleyball is the mental game. It is such a fast paced sport, so when you make an error you can’t let it affect your next play. You just have to shake it off and refocus.”

Foos spent a lot of time in the off-season improving her game. “I think the area I improved the most over the offseason is reading attackers. As a libero, I cover a lot of court, so it’s important to use all the information the hitter is giving me to place myself in the spot that gives me the best chance to dig a ball.”

Foos is very involved in her school and her community.  She represented her school as a Prairie Schooner Mate for the Wichita River Festival.  She is also a member of the National Honors Society, Kansas Association of Youth (KAY), Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and the GHS Spirit Club.

Foos has not yet decided on her future plans, but says that several schools at the next level have expressed interest.  She is considering a career major in Psychology and Biology.
