Goddard High School athlete Micah Johnson, an Honorable Mention 5A All-State running back during his junior football campaign, is looking forward to even bigger things for his senior year. Johnson rushed for over 900 yards during his junior season for a Lions team that finished 5-4 overall and featured one of the state’s most potent running attacks behind Johnson and 2023 graduate Devin Mathes. With an offense that will likely feature Johnson even more this season, it is fairly safe to predict that those numbers will climb even higher.
Johnson, a three sport athlete, also competes in basketball and track. Johnson would like to continue to compete at the next level, either in football or in track. Last spring, Johnson had an impressive track season, establishing himself as one of the state’s top sprinters, placing second at the 5A State Meet in the 100 meter dash while also competing in the 200 and 4 x 1. Johnson is hoping that his accomplishments will convert to even more rewards this season.
Johnson’s feats have come as a result of hard work, and he acknowledges that his personal success and the Lions’ success as a team will likely be tied to their efforts in the off-season. “I worked hard last summer to improve myself for this year’s seasons, for both football and track. I did a lot of speed training and worked on my explosiveness.” As for the potential of this year’s football team, Johnson feels that they should have a lot to look forward to, “I think our team has a lot of potential, and if we put that work in, we could go far.”
Johnson is undecided about future plans for study, but he definitely wants to continue to either play football or run track at the collegiate level.
