Eisenhower’s Lucas Dickman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

By Ken Hansard

Goddard Eisenhower running back Lucas Dickman wants to do something that no Tiger football player has ever done before.   “I have always loved just being in the huddle, looking around and seeing all my guys. I love my team and want to help us accomplish something that has never been done in Eisenhower history by winning all our games (and) bringing home a state championship.”

Dickman, who would like to continue playing at the collegiate level, also has some personal goals in mind:  “My personal goal is to rush for 1,500 yards, 15 touchdowns, and compile 2000 total all-purpose yards, but if our team wins, then that’s all that matters.”   Those seem like lofty goals, until one considers that Dickman was 1st Team All-AVCTL Division II and Honorable Mention All-State as a Junior at EHS.

Dickman stays busy year-round.  He plays basketball for the TIgers, runs track and field, and he was the 156 lb. 5A State Powerlifting champion in 2022 and was runner-up in 2023.Dickman’s commitment to individual goals is impressive, but possibly even more impressive is his willingness to put his team above his own personal goals.  When asked what he worked on most in the off-season, he replied, “Blocking. (Our) coaches really emphasize fighting for your brothers, and there is no better way to show your brothers you care than by going out there and giving up your body for them so they can get the accolades.  So, I studied film on myself and even watched Deuce Vaughn from K-State to get better.  And just listened to my coaches.”
