Lane Nelson’s senior year with Goddard High School should be a memorable one. Nelson has already had a notable career for the Lions. He has started for Goddard High since he was a sophomore and has already made his mark on the program. After starting all nine games during his sophomore campaign, Nelson recorded over 80 tackles to help lead the Lions to a remarkable turnaround during the 2022 season, finishing a surprising 5-4.
As for the upcoming season, Nelson says, “I’m looking forward to being a senior and winning football games. I’m excited to play next to the guys I’ve been playing with since I was little. I think we have tons of success ahead.”
Along with his aspirations for the team, Nelson has his sights set on several lofty individual goals: “I want to get All-State again, All-League again, and break the school single season individual record for tackles, which is currently at 106.”
Nelson was an Honorable Mention nominee for Kansas 5A All-State, He was also voted 1st Team All-League (AVCTL Division 2) as well as being named a Kansas Top 100 defensive Player of the Year candidate.
As for what the future holds, Nelson says, “I haven’t decided what college to attend, but I want to play football wherever I go. My current plan is to be a mechanical engineer.”
