Goddard’s Karlee Ford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stroot Lockers

By Ken Hansard

Eisenhower High senior Karlee Ford lists herself as a catcher, but also sees herself as a utility player. She takes pride in the fact that this allows her to help her team in so many ways, “My role on this team is to be a leader from wherever I’m asked to play on the field.”

The Tigers finished last season 19-6, tying Valley Center for first in their league (AVCTL Division II) and eventually finishing runner-up at the 5A State Championship. To return to that level of success this season, they will need some new players to step up. “We lost five senior starters and are trying to piece the puzzle together for this season.”

Ford holds Eisenhower’s single-season stolen base record at 25, a rarity for a catcher. As with any great competitor, she knows it’s always important to continue to hone her craft. “I worked a lot on hitting and on my other skills in the off season. I love the work and grind, and I’m always looking for new ways to get better.”

Karlee has served as Eisenhower’s Student Council class president and is an NHS member. Additionally, Ford has served as a Tiger Ambassador, has played basketball, been a cheerleader, and has competed for the Tigers’ Powerlifting team, where she placed third twice and fourth once at the 5A State Championships from 2022 – 2024.

After her high school career, Ford will be attending Iowa State University to play softball and has plans to study business and communications. But first, Karlee still has important work to finish at Eisenhower. “I definitely want to leave a legacy with the program and future players while continuing to grow with my
teammates. I have players I have looked up to at Eisenhower, and I’ve learned from them; I want to give that back.”
