Q&A with Eisenhower’s Delainee Dexter – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

By Ken Hansard

Recently, VYPE had the privilege to talk to and find out more about Goddard Eisenhower High School athlete Delainee Dexter.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

Dexter: As a three sport athlete going into my junior season, I would love to commit to a school for volleyball or for track.  I also want to maintain good grades and help lead my teams to be league champs and to go to state!

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

Dexter: The most fun I’ve had in the past year has been medaling at state for track & field, achieving 1,000 assists in volleyball, and sharing good team chemistry during basketball.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

Dexter: My favorite teacher is Mrs. Allee. She is so understanding, listens very well, and is always making sure I am okay. I can always count on her for good advice.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Dexter: My favorite athletic memory was when we stayed in a hotel for club volleyball.  I got stuck on the 18th floor for 20 minutes and thought I wasn’t going to make it out.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Dexter: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Hayden Yuza. Hayden is always so hyped for game days and is always positive and energetic for the team. I would say she has left an amazing impact.  I’m so glad I got close with Hayden because she is always there for me in any type of situation. She was there for me when I got injured freshman season and made me feel comfortable and let me be myself. I cherish every moment with her because she is the type of friend you definitely need.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Dexter: My favorite part of being on this team is representing the Eisenhower Tigers. I also love how I’m friends with my teammates on and off the court naturally.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

Dexter: I would definitely go somewhere tropical like the Cayman Islands, and I would take my family.

VYPE: If we gave you $5000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

Dexter: If I had $5000 to spend in 24 hours, I would buy those gummy sharks / whales. Then I would definitely go to lululemon for clothes, get more expensive shoes, and buy Crumbl for the homies.

VYPE: What other sports, activities, or community service projects do you participate in, and how have these helped to prepare you for the future?

Dexter: I also participate in track, basketball, and club volleyball. All of these sports prepare me for the future by making me mentally ready and giving me motivation. Playing sports also helps me understand who the right people to surround myself with are, and they motivate me to grind everyday doing the sports I love.
